Seven distinct phase topologies are distinguishable, say, for fixed Lp and increasing dc: all hot, small clusters, one cluster, bands, one cavity, small cavities, all cold. Configurations with many small clusters or cavities are hard to detect at too low or too large values of Lp, i.e., of the QS threshold in Eq. (2) (see text). (B) Fraction of cold particles, Nm/N, vs. dc for Lp=10. All remaining parameters are as in Figure 1. Vertical colored bands in (B) locate the different phase topologies from (A).
