National Science Open – Open Science for a Shared Future

We are delighted to introduce National Science Open (NSO), a new international, peer-reviewed, open access journal. NSO disseminates the most influential research of profound impact in advancing human knowledge, covering the full arc of natural sciences and engineering and is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is led by Editor-in-Chief, Professor Yue Zhang, University of Science and Technology Beijing. There are also six Executive Editors-in-Chief representing different disciplines and all of them are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In his first editorial, Professor Zhang expresses his hope of “opening” science. “NSO welcomes a transformative culture to embrace open science. Access to high-quality frontier research should be made freely available to everyone. Transparency in authorship and sharing original research data facilitate to battle issues of academic integrity plaguing our community.”
Two issues have already been published, including the special topics “COVID-19: Virus, Immunity and Vaccines” from Life Sciences and Medicine, and “Emerging Pollution and Emerging Pollutants” from Earth and Environmental Sciences. Other articles have been published under Information Sciences, Materials Science and Engineering.
“Covid-19, since its outbreak, has forever changed our lives as well as sciences,” said Professor Chen Dong, Guest Editor of the first special topic and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in his Guest Editorial. “Our immunity is evolving along with the virus.”
“Currently, a large number of emerging contaminants with unknown structures and risks are present in the environment,“ said Professor Jinren Ni, Guest Editor of the second special topic, Executive Editor-in-Chief of NSO Earth and Environmental Sciences and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in his Guest Editorial. “Therefore, greater efforts are needed to address these concerns by promoting interdisciplinary research.”
NSO publishes papers of transformative originality and pivotal development in multidisciplinary areas, with fair, rigorous review, and fast production. Led by a global team of distinguished researchers, NSO also publishes timely, insightful commentaries and perspectives, engaging the interest of both the academic community and wider public.
